I remember back when open access or reproducibility was not a thing, I used some little app written in Java to "steal" data from scanned figures of other's papers datum by datum, because they just wouldn't put the data in an online supplement or a repository. I do this less often nowadays because suddenly the community becomes more aware of data sharing.
